Ever since the day that God created
man, he has been faced with choices. God created man a free, moral
agent, thus, he has the ability to choose to do or not to do
something. However, there are some things that we cannot escape.
There are certain things that we do not have a choice in. Let's notice
some of these inescapable things.
Death. One
of the things that, we, as individuals, cannot escape is our physical
death. The Hebrew writer said that "it is appointed unto men once to
die" (Heb. 9:
27). All of us are familiar
with appointments. We have doctor's appointments, dentist's
appointments, even business appointments; and occasionally for various
reasons, we will miss an appointment. But, unless Christ comes first,
death is an appointment that we all will keep! Death is no respecter of
persons; Paul said, "So death passed upon all men" (Rom. 5:12).
Further, he revealed, "For as in Adam all die..."
(1 Cor. 15:22).
This is proof beyond doubt that death is a reality; it is something that
we cannot escape.
The
Second Coming of Christ. First
of all, we are assured that Christ will return the second time. In
John 14:3,
it was said by Jesus himself, "I will come again." Also, Peter
announces, "The day of the Lord will come"
(2 Pet. 3:10).
Furthermore, The Bible reveals that when Christ comes "every eye shall
see him"
(Rev. 1:7). Whether you are
black or white, big or little, male or female, you cannot escape the
second coming of Christ.
The
Resurrection.
Once Christ descends from
heaven, every one who has lived and died will be resurrected. John
wrote, "Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all
that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they
that have done good, unto the resurrection of life, and they that have
done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation"
(Jn. 5:28-29).
The
Judgment Day.
After Christ returns and the
dead have been raised, all will stand before God in the day of
judgment. The apostle Paul expressed it in this manner: "For we must
all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may
receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done,
whether it be good or bad"
(2 Cor. 5:10).
In addition to that, Paul said,
"For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ"
(Rom. 14:10).
In Revelation
20:11, the Bible informs us that
John "saw the dead, small and great, stand before God."
These are four things that we cannot
dodge, jump over, detour around; they are inescapable. However, we can
choose to be prepared or unprepared for each of these things. It is up
to each of us!
